About Dr. Kristen Markovich

It is important to know and feel comfortable with your psychologist, so I thought I’d introduce myself in more detail.  I own a private practice that was previously in Barrington, Illinois, but is currently virtual.  Regarding my professional/educational background, I earned my Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Adler University (previously Adler School of Professional Psychology) in Chicago, Illinois, with an Advanced Adlerian Certificate.  My undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree was from DePaul University in Psychology and Spanish.  I’ve worked at group practices providing individual, couples, family and group therapy for all ages, and specialized in children and adolescents. I have also delivered community and school-based seminars in the area and conducted psychological testing/assessments and ADHD evaluations.

Currently, I provide telehealth services in Illinois, and I am also certified through PSYPACT to provide teletherapy across state lines in participating PSYPACT states. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Adlerian therapy, and Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) to treat anxiety disorders, OCD, panic disorders, panic attacks, insomnia, depression, high functioning Autism (ASD/Asperger’s), ADHD, life transitions, grief, and parenting struggles.

I was an Adjunct Professor at the Adler School of Professional Psychology from 2012 to 2014.  I taught a class in which students learn about Positive Discipline and Dreikurs/Adlerian parenting techniques and theory, and then supervised the facilitation of parenting groups all over the Chicagoland area.  I am passionate about this logical parenting approach and have studied it and integrated it into my therapeutic work since 2007.  My professional memberships have included: American Psychological Association (APA), North American Society for Adlerian Psychology (NASAP), and Therapy Dogs International (TDI).

On a more personal note, I love spending time with my husband and daughter.  I enjoy photography (see my gallery below), making jewelry, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and birdwatching.  I also play soccer competitively in co-ed leagues and have played since I was 7 years old. I am a huge fan of the Beatles and Taylor Swift.  We have two mini australian shepherds: Charlie the retired therapy dog is 14 years old, and Penny Lane is 3 and a therapy dog in training.

I love what I do for a living, and I like to teach and model for my clients that living a well-rounded life is very important to your mental health.  I look forward to getting to know you as well!
